In today’s social climate music fans are in need of somewhere they can go and experience an uncensored raw and uncut Hip-Hop concert. The rebellious live shows of Chicagoland based rap artist Mood Swangz have paved the way for people looking for something that’s nothing short of unique and memorable.   Mood Swangz has been bringing his original brand of rap music to the masses professionally since 2004, his success has led his path across North America through touring, guest appearances, artist collaborations, and high profile rap battles.

Re-wind the story back to his younger days in the mid 1990’s and you’ll find a lost soul entrenched in Chicagoland’s punk rock music scene.  Raised by a single mother and the youngest of three brothers it’s no surprise that he moved homes and changed schools frequently.  As he grew older he lost touch with the watered down version of family friendly punk rock that was sweeping the airwaves.  No longer able to relate to the subject matter and feeling marginalized by societal norms he reconnected with Hip Hop records he was given in grade school by his older brothers; e.g. Eazy E’s album “Eazy Duz It” Gravediggaz “6 Feet Deep” and other rap acts such as Big L, Public Enemy, Cypress Hill and Wu Tang Clan .” He later found a solace strangely though battle rapping in the school cafeterias and house parties he attended. This became an outlet for him to release his frustration and was his first foray into becoming not only a fan, but a showman of his craft. Who else but adolescent teenagers could be bigger critics?  This showed him early on that his tough skin and quick wit made him a worthy adversary.  His grandfather also played an integral role in his musical development through the sharing of his vinyl records.  His grandfather obtained them from a fellow soldier he befriended in the jungle during WW2.  This friend would later on become a well respected music critic at The Boston Globe.

Mood Swangz’s music encompasses that punk rock attitude he grew up with, in that his songs were never to be labeled as mainstream or Pop.  He is an artist that embodies a more raw and gritty aesthetic, one that could best be described as “Authentic Chicago Hardcore Hip Hop” There are particular elements that he uses in his sound and lyrics to pay homage to the greats of the past. He has worked with many producers to perfect his sound; e.g. Rory Sparrow, Earmint (Spectacular Diagnostics), D.J. Oliver Fade, Bugn Beats, Velvet Sick, GhettoBlaster, D.J. Przm, Nightwalker, Mr. Green, Wes Restless, and E.C Illa.  Mood Swangz is a certified modern day incarnation of Hip Hop’s Golden Era.   It is his mission to give music fans a vehicle to escape from the bubblegum rappers of today.

People these days want more than just great music and Mood Swangz along with accomplished D.J./Producer Handz Solo are known to always deliver something special. The music duo meld a perfect harmony between an M.C. and a D.J. onstage, from dope bars and hooks to insane beat judggles, cuts and scratches while performing.  They stay “G’d up from the feet up!” ready to provide a 5 star Hip Hop concert experience with a full blown professional stage show. They have both been doing this for years and compliment each other extremely well with all their flash, charisma, and character. This isn’t amateur hour and it really shows at a Mood Swangz concert. This is notably why he has played everywhere from The Double Door, Metro, Subterranean, The Abbey Pub, and Brauer House in his home state of Illinois to venues like the Key Club in Los Angeles Ca and Southpaw in Brooklyn NY.  He has shared the stage with such Hip Hop industry veterans as M.O.P., Wu Tang Clan’s Killah Priest and Cappadonna, King Magnetic, R.A. The Rugged Man, Slaine (La Coka Rostra), Afroman, E.C. ILLA, Do or Die, D.J. Big Once and D.J. Ambideckstriks, M.C. J.U.I.C.E., Matlock (FLY PIG), Mr.Green, Pace Won (The Outsidaz), Earatic Statik, Bubba Sparxx and more.

For the past decade Mood Swangz has been sharpening his teeth, releasing several singles, two self pressed releases “The Cereal Killer & Diablo Gringo EP’s”, major guest appearances; e.g. (Giraffe Nuts), Matlock and Mr. Green’s  “ The Wax Museum E.P.”, video appearances, and a variety of rap battles from Scribble Jam and The World Rap Championships to Grindtime and No Coast Battle League.  He has battled the likes of West Coast battle rap legends Cadalack Ron, Sahtyre, The Saurus and Kronic Plague and Detroit Hip Hop Heavyweights Marv Won and Quest McCody.  He is bringing his sound back out on the road and is set to blow up stages across the United States with his eclectic and original golden era aura.  The buzz has been brewing after years of hard work and the top is ready to blow. Mood Swangz is coming full force and should be on your “artist to see” radar.
